I love my job because
I can play dress-up and we have the liberty to wear whatever we want as long as
it’s neither too casual, nor revealing. When I was little, my mom used to sew
dresses for me and she gets to decide what I’d wear, and I hated that. I wanted
to wear jeans and shorts and rubber shoes. But she wanted me to sport lacey
dresses and sparkly flats with bows. When I reached high school, I was allowed
to pick my outfits so then I was able to wear shirts, baggy pants and sneakers.
In college, we had two options to wear the uniform – skirt or pants. Purposefully,
I chose pants because for me, skirts were uncomfortable. But when I had my
first job, wearing dresses, skirts and cashmeres seemed to be normal with my
coworkers. It was a different world. It seemed like they were on a stage,
sporting different types of outfits. I was amazed by how they wear their fur
coats, sky-heel shoes, boots and signature makeup. Then I realized that being a
girly girl isn’t so bad after all. I started buying dresses, pencil skirts and
colorful tops. I’ve learned to mix and match, I was into printed tops and plain
skirts, body-hugger dresses and wedges & pumps. I love neutral colors as much
as I love bright ones. I do not have favorite shops in particular, but I love
to go “ukay-ukay” with my mom and sisters. These are cheap shops that sell old
clothes/ overruns. I like it because for one it’s cheap-- like half the price
in malls; plus you won’t find clothes of the same style. Here are some of my
ensembles.
Since we are not
allowed to wear super short dresses and skirts, I decided to wear leggings. I
got the beige lacey top and black glossy leggings in a thrift shop; scalloped skirt
on sale at a mall and black pointy slingback pumps from Marks and Spencer.
When I get too
stressed at work, I’d usually go at the back of the building, sit there and
practically do nothing! The nude sweater I bought from one of my “ukay”
adventures was knitted so I chose to wear a black body-hugger dress under it
which my sister got me from UK and cotton leggings from Singapore – still
sponsored by my sister.
Sometimes when a
vintage spirit enters my body, I’d often feel like dressing up like a woman
from the past. I got my sheer button down blouse from a thrift shop, bright red
skater skirt from Manila and vintage oxford flats from a local store.
OOTD or outfit of the
day has been a common fad among people who are active in social networking
sites. It means you post your ensemble for the day regardless of the theme you
have in mind. You can buy signature clothes, expensive makeup and branded
shoes; but you can never ever find a shop that sells charm and style.
